On stumbling across Cobra Starship at the Astoria 2 last year, little was I to know that this would lead to a love affair with a band I'd never heard of before I entered the building! Most of us use the time the opening act is on stage to hit the bar, go to the toilet and take a look at the grossly overpriced merch, however this Oregon 3 piece just goes to prove that support acts are all too often worth taking a look at.
So what are this band all about? Well think Green Day back in the early days. They're so good, in fact, that a few days later (after listening to their debut album at least twice a day) I saw them again; this time at the Concorde 2 in Brighton. By this time I was hooked,as the then-singer Ty, bassist Matt and drummer Josh were driving themselves around the tour in a car and begging gig goers to give them a bed for the night.
Less than a year later the guys have taken part in the Warped Tour in the United States, supported Alkaline Trio on a tour of the UK, have more recently supported The Offspring and appeared at Reading and Leeds festival. This is a band that are surely destined for great things, their star is in the ascendancy in the United States and is sure to follow here soon. Their recently released album Good Views, Bad News (2009) was awarded a 4 K review by a certain national magazine, whilst a tiny gig in The Fighting Cocks in Kingston was judged to be worthy of 5 K's.
Returning to the UK in December as support for Set Your Goals, you would be well advised to get your tickets now as this is a band that are going places and set to become the next big thing on the punk-pop-rock scene.
