Bootlegs Recordings, released 15/02/2010
Everything is in place on this urgent indie-rock record from London’s Eight Legs. Beginning in a way reminiscent of the Queens of the Stone Age during their widdly-hook heyday, it develops into something that has a fairly memorable chorus, a breakdown and an energised ending.
All of this is perfectly acceptable and will stick in your head for a bit but there’s not really enough to keep you coming back for more. The surface is fine, but it’s little things like the hi-hat in the chorus that just seem to give an impression of a song that’s a bit too forced and not quite interesting enough.
This may not be their only direction if B Side “I Understand” is anything to go by. But based on its below par attempt at a kind of drugged up Big Pink sound, I’m not sure that’s a good thing.
Not bad, lads, but what else you got?
