Getting down and dirty from the off, AT8 begin proceedings with a cool, muted bass line that gets heads inadvertently nodding and tail feathers waggling before a crash of neon merriment explodes in your face.
The Buckinghamshire twosome of Thalia Beard and Amber Ducker both play guitar and sing as a drum machine kicks and pounds in the background. The mix of sugary sweet singing with rock riffs and solos make for a fun boogie on the dance floor.
Initially a tad off-putting from its simplicity, if anything Adam’s Party is a grower if you are willing to embrace the evident strive of late for 80s-sounding pop music. The girls generate a definite party atmosphere with their combo of cheery pop and indie rock, whilst harmonising well together, but it suffers somewhat.
Advertising themselves as “two guitars and a drum machine”, AT8 – although they do the job – don’t really spark much interest. While there are plenty of bands out there already using their 80s ancestors as inspiration for today’s pop, AT8 seem to have created a carbon copy of something straight out of The Breakfast Club.
It’s by no means a bad track; their rock influences definitely shine midway through the song, giving its basic elements a little more intrigue. Nevertheless, AT8’s efforts fall flat from their obvious aping of other artists. The fact that they seem to be aimlessly dipping themselves into a vat of pop before jumping into a heap of punk rock just serves to create discord. Until they break away with their own sound, listening to tunes like Adam’s Party will feel almost as embarrassingly joyous as KISS, except with less joy.
