We Were Promised Jetpacks - Quiet Little Voices

The future's bright - the future's Scottish.

Released April 13th on FatCat Records.

There must be something happening north of the border. Maybe something in the water, or the fresh highland air. Something is happening that is inspiring Scottish bands to all new levels of awesomeness, and I don’t think it’s Braveheart. To the list of Glasvegas, The Twilight Sad, Frightened Rabbit, and a rejuvenated Franz Ferdinand, you can now add We Were Promised Jetpacks.

You can normally tell when you are listening to a great song within the first few seconds of hearing it, and this is no different. Quiet Little Voices invites you in, then locks the door and throws the key down a crocodile’s throat. Not that you would want to leave anyway. Once you hear Adam Thompson sing “I’m young again, I’m young again,” say goodbye to the next 4 minutes of your life, you won’t be getting them back. There is so much wonder in such a simple song that builds, fakes an ending, then soars to Ben Nevis-like heights that you would need a jetpack to reach anyway. Only the best songs can inspire that feeling in you. The last time I felt like this was after listening to Dogs – Tuned To A Different Station, which is one of my favourite songs of recent times, a song that I can easily listen to over and over again. I can safely do the same with this.

An album out this year you say? Count me in. Judging by the other songs on their Myspace page, it could well be a gem. FatCat Records have done it again!
