The Agitator – Get Ready/Let's Start Marching

' in the end is all just a bit immature...'

Released 07th July

Derek Meins’ (aka The Agitator) message is clear he is critical of the state the country is in and is trying to help the situation by creating songs that channel this disgust and inspire people.

Get Ready’ is a protest put into advice, mixed with a little bit of 90’s rap that you might expect the Fresh Prince of Bel Air to come up with. Although lyrically it goes down the political road, in the end it is all just a bit immature. The chorus, which mainly consisted of shouting ‘get ready’, lets this angst filled song down; throughout I was expecting Ant and Dec’s ‘Let’s get ready to rumble’ to rear its ugly head.

Like ‘Get Ready’ The Agitator’s second song ,‘Let’s Start Marching’, is complete with an aggressive beat set to in your face lyrics, ‘We are tired of doing nothing come on now let’s start marching’ and 'get off your knees and let’s start the fight’. Unlike ‘Get Ready’ however it appears to take a more mature approach and is all that bit stronger and memorable with Meins’ raspy vocals heard more clearly.

The Agitator certainly lives up to the definition of an agitator. Described as a person who actively supports his ideology with speeches and actions, Mein fits this image. He is creating music that has purpose. Although, at times, this purpose is blinded by the need to fit a stereotype, you get a sense that all the childish chanting is just a way for The Agitator to be seen as having a punk ideology.

Overall this offering lacks any real quality and in the end sounds far too dated.
