Released 22.06.09 – 3 Bar Fire
Is it the product of a fevered imagination, or is there something of a trip hop resurgence happening right now? Bristol is on the rise again, thanks to dudes like Joker; London rappers Cocknbullkid and Speech Dabell are mixing jazzy beats with icy synth. Hell, even former Goth gonks The Horrors have got Portishead main man Geoff Barrow in to lend some paranoiac poise to their second album. This debut from Silver Man (nee actual human being David Silverman) is like every chilled, smoke-furled 90s dance impulse distilled into one incredibly lazy, horn-parping, fat beating, low bass-riding, stoner yawn of a track. In fact, so indisputably 90s causal sports-wear cool is ‘Strike 3’ I see no reason why is shouldn’t be retroactively edited into Guy Ritchie’s Snatch so it can soundtrack a scene where Steven Graham and Vinnie Jones bosh some twonk like them Krays used to do. Sorted.
