Metric – Help I’m Alive

'The sort of brazen synth-rock nirvana only madmen can dream of...'

Released: 16.03.09 Metric Porductions

With every clique-loving music mag currently clamouring to be the first to declare 2009 the Year of the Heavily Styled Woman with Synth Backing, Metric have timed their long-overdue return to the fray well.

“Help I’m Alive”
kicks off by confidently ticking every boxing in the “Depeche Mode referencing book for dummies”, with vocalist Emily Haines pouting her way through some delightfully faux-existential lyrics.
The song continues in this vein until exactly 1.17 when a monster guitar riff inspired directly by Boston’s mighty “More Than a Feeling” chugs in, transmogrifying “Help I’m Alive” into the sort of brazen synth-rock nirvana only madmen can dream of.

Metric are undoubtedly ahead of the game here – come 2010 we’ll all be rocking out to Little Boots’ cover of Europe’s “The Final Countdown”.
