Lucius - Enemy

'If it wasn’t for the heavy dream beat then this song would sound like a cheap Busted...'

Released on Greater London Records

The opening begins with a refreshing drum beat and guitars that trick you into believing that this guy could go places but as soon as the repetitive chorus kicks in it ruins any chances it had. ‘Enemy’ leaves you with the same feeling you got when you heard the opera star Katherine Jenkins trying to copy Evanescence’s anthem ‘Bring Me To Life’; it just doesn’t work.

If it wasn’t for the heavy dream beat then this song would sound like a cheap Busted, at a push. Granted it has what most would expect from a more pop sounding rock song: fancy guitar work, gritty sounding bass line, simple lyrics and harsh pounding drums but it is Lucius’ ,aka Luke Morgan,  voice that falls short.

His sound is far too pretty for rock and too weak to really make a difference. Rock and even indie-rock are genres where nice certainly doesn’t cut the mustard, maybe he would be more comfortable fronting a soft indie band with an acoustic guitar strapped to his back?

Full credit to him for trying to create a unique sound and give a different edge to a genre that isn’t particularly pushing the boundaries anymore but on this occasion, sorry Lucius, I think you’ve failed.
