Kill it Kid

They really are rather marvelous.

For  fear of going overboard and rhapsodising too much about a band I know very little about, I’m going to try and keep this relatively brief. But I truly believe I may have stumbled across one of the better new bands in Britain.

So, ladies and Gents, please listen to Kill it Kid.  Mixing up a glorious mash of 21st Century delta blues,  a thoroughly Tom Waitsian growl (sung by a mere whippersnapper if the pictures will have have us believe) and some country and western ho down’ing , they deserve a place in hearts across the land

Lurching between jingly jangly country on first track’s ‘My Lips Won’t Be Kept Clean’ shared male and female vocals, to the more thoughtful ‘Burst It’s Banks’ and its just-so opening slide guitar , they are clearly a band unafraid of exploring the sounds of the past to emote the issues of the present.

Live track ‘Private Idaho’ showcases Steph Ward’s really rather lovely voice, while the violins singing sparingly behind her are enough to induce the elusive shivers (and I’m not even watching them live). Fourth track ‘Heaven Never Seems So Close’ then stumbles into a perfectly shambolic, whisky-soaked (if you’ll excuse the cliché) country whig-out, backed at all times by Chris Turpin’s overpowering (but not OVERpowering) guttural vocals.

I think they are great. So should you. They haven’t released anything yet. Get involved and get them a deserved following before they do.
