The Quiet Life- 03/12/2008- Hope And Anchor

'Harmonious, captivating and one of a kind..... a guitar-wielding megazord if you will...'

There are many reasons that Mathematics scares me:

Quadratic Equations.

My old Judi Dench-a like teacher whose bra strap kept ‘accidentally’ slipping down when she dropped the chalk.

Carol. Vorderman.

Shudder.

So a gig that came with the friend-recommending tag-line of ‘it’s like seeing a really good singer songwriter, multiplied by three!’ didn’t really have me clamouring to break down the venue’s doors. Even the whispy, distant memory of James Blunt’s whiny drawl is enough to send me into apoplectic rage, yet alone the thought of three of them.

But what is Maths if not playing the odds? Every once in a while you’re bound to strike lucky.

The Quiet Life are something different. While all three members undoubtedly showcase the accomplished, polished talent of three individual singer songwriters, together they offer far more than the (already impressive) sum of their parts, melding into an accomplished harmony group that crafts truly unique acoustic rock grounded in layered, melodic guitar strumming.

A guitar-wielding Megazord if you will.

Considering the band’s instrument checklist consists of just three voices and the accompanying guitars, it’s impressive how they’re able to produce such a threaded, atmospheric sound, with each soaring vocal harmony and guitar break punctuating the tender, often bittersweet lyrics.

Harmonious, captivating and one of a kind, sit back, relax and you’ll soon understand why so many people are opting for The Quiet Life.
