The Strokes will be heading into the studio in February 2009 according to the band's bassist Nikolai Fraiture.

The album will be the band's follow-up to the poorly received First Impressions of Earth, released way back in January 2006.

Since then, the band have been on a hiatus, with guitarist Nick Valensi taking time out to spend with his young twin children, and fellow six-stringer Albert Hammond Jr. pursuing a successful solo career.

It is hoped that their new material will be a return to the heady days of their debut album, Is This It, widely acclaimed as a modern classic, with that classic album cover.
