Leona and Estelle Score Mobo Success

The ladies scoop two gongs each at the annual Music of Black Origin Awards

The Mobo awards got underway last night, with two wins each for British stars Leona Lewis and Estelle. Former X-Factor winner Lewis, despite not attending the event (and being being booed for it), picked up the Best Album award for her debut, Spirit, and Best Video for her massive number one, Bleeding Love.

Estelle, who has shot to success in the past year after signing onto John Legend's record label, won Best UK Female, and Best Song for her hit American Boy.

Other winners included Chris Brown, who picked up Best International Act and Best Soul Artist, and the prolific Lil' Wayne, who won Best Hip-Hop Artist.

The Best Newcomer award was won by the teenaged East London MC Chipmunk, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, the Lifetime Achievement award was won by the Detroit record label Motown, which celebrates its 50th birthday next year.

The ceremony was presented by former Spice Girl Mel B and Run DMC's Rev Run.
