James Murphy, the frontman and mastermind of the New York indie-troupe LCD Soundsystem, has announced that the band will be taking a lengthy break to allow its members to focus on other things.
Murphy himself is currently heavily involved in the production of a new DFA (the label he co-runs) release, which he describes as "70s radio rock with contemporary singing. Some of it sounds T Rex-y, Cheap Trick-ish and Fleetwood Mac-ish." The project is currently untitled.
It is unclear when work will begin on the follow up to LCD Soundsystem's 2007 album, Sound of Silver. The album was widely acclaimed, being ranked as album of the year by The Guardian, Uncut, and Drowned in Sound. One of the singles from said album, All My Friends, is often considered, (by this writer at least), to be one of the best songs of the past ten years.
Murphy is set to curate the This Is Not London season at the Matter music venue this weekend alongside LCD Soundsystem drummer Pat Mahoney and acts from the DFA label.
