Mildly controversial singer-songwriter Katy Perry has clearly grown accustomed to provoking debate. Not content with singles Ur So Gay and Kissed a Girl sparking outrage for their percieved homophobia, Perry has now announced to Blender magazine that her mother used to date Jimi Hendrix, and her father was a close friend of 60s LSD guru Timothy Leary.

The claims have come in the wake of press stating that religiously-raised Perry's parents, both Christian preachers in California, found her songs "shameful and disgusting".

Now No.1 artist Perry has unveiled the skeletons in their closet, revealing that her mother was picked out in a Spanish club by the hard-living guitar legend, whilst her former hippy father used to supply a type of acid know as Strawberry Fields, after the Beatles song.

According to the 23-year old singer, "In terms of wild youth, they put me to shame."
