John Travolta, the iconic star of film musicals such as Grease and Saturday Night Fever, has had to cancel filming on his new movie after rioting broke out on the set.
The star had been filming the Luc Besson-directed From Paris With Love in Les Bosquets, a high-rise estate north of the French capital. The film, which plans to highlight social issues amongst working class Parisians, historically famous for their predisposition to rioting, had offered many jobs as support staff and extras to locals. Nearby businesses were also providing catering and other essential services for the film crew.
However, before filming could begin, violence broke out amongst the workers, with threats aimed at the crew, and 10 cars planned to be used in the filming destroyed.
A spokesman for the film, which also stars The Tudors' King Henry VIII, Jonathan Rhys Myers, said that there was now no possibilty of the celebrities carrying on work there, with other locations now being sought to replace Les Bosquets.
