In one of the most
unlikely music collaborations in many years, it seems that Bruce Sprinsgteen and East 17 are to join forces for a European tour early next year.
Springsteen caught the band’s live set at Glastonbury
two weeks ago and has since become a huge fan.
The singer spent hours with Walthamstow
genius Brian Harvey and sat in disbelief as Harvey read some of his London street
poetry and regaled him with tales of growing up in streets of East
London.
Springsteen was also
fascinated to learn of Brian taking 15
Es in one night and of his near death experience with a parked car. He said:
‘That’s some special type of character you got right there, I've been all over the
world and I never met a piece of work like Brian Harvey. He’s
amazing!'
They talked about
touring after Bruce’s original band pulled out at the last minute.
Bruce said: ‘In
all honesty, me and the E Street Band
had a falling out. It would have cost hundreds
of thousands to get a new band together, promote it and change all the posters,
so we decided to just add ‘ast 17’ after the ‘E’ . The band said they do the tour for two hundred fags and a bottle of Jack
Daniels each. It’s
basically an economical decision.'
Catch Bruce Springsteen and the E – ast17 Street Band in all major European cities next
year.
