Highest on the list is BBC 6Music's George Lamb. In the last two years, the presenter of the station's flagship show:

• - Claimed £38,000 in license fee money for the installation of an ego massager in the second home in Dorset that belongs to his partner, singer Johnny Borrell.


• - Successfully requested reimbursement of £1.99 for a CD copy of Mr. Loverman by Shabba Ranks.


• - Asked for a clothing allowance of £40,000 in Debenham's vouchers that remain unused.

When contacted about the revelations, Lamb offered no explanation, vowing to continue.

"I've done nothing to the station and my show will be unaffected. It's complete bollocks."

Radio 1's Edith Bowman could also find herself subject to inquiry.

The documentation states the respected DJ and wife of former Liverpool forward Tommy Smith overclaimed £19,340 in salary, having played a recorded version of a previous show on 17 succesive occasions.

Bowman is no stranger to controversy. In 2007 she began a public spat with rival Jo Whiley over ratings and content. Replying to Whiley's increasingly on-air personal admissions, the Scot infamously allowed her show to document her 2008 pregnancy and subsequently gave birth live on air. Worried of further escalation, the producers of both shows decided to separate the pair by inserting a 15 minute satirical news segment between them in January.

Radio 1 controller Chris Moyles has so far been non-committal, stating "Let's see what the inquiry pulls up, if she chooses to go, we'll never be able to get another like her."

An inside source stated "at least 12" DJ's could be forced to resign and that stations could resort to recruiting inexperienced television personalities to fill the spaces, adding "it's a disaster waiting to happen."
