What Is The Gobshout Gig Challenge?

18 Gigs...6 Days...1 World Record

 The Gobshout Gig Challenge

What Is It?

Our attempt to break the current Guinness world record (of 15) for most gigs attended in a week.

Who’s Doing It?

Chris Barrett
will be our reporter for the week and going to all the gigs, accompanied by someone from the merry Gobshout crew to take pictures, get the official bizness done and pick him up if he falls over or gets punched.

Why Chris?

Because at the time of us organising it he was unemployed, and being the centre of attention is the realistion of a long held dream for him.  He also wrote some rather good things for us last year, which you can read here

When’s It Happening?

19th-26th April are the dates, though unless some daytime gigs are announced for the Monday the final gigs will be almost certainly attended on Sunday the 25th

Where’s It Happening?

At venues throughout London- most of them North and East based.

Why Is It Happening?

Gobshout was always meant to be about doing things a little bit differently, and this is really out of the box for a publication like ours.  We will be posting daily updates, a picture diary, tweets, Facebook updates and some post attempt round-ups, so there will be plenty of info about the attempt, and we hope to make it all as entertaining as possible.

What Are The Rules?

Aah, the rules!  When the Gobshout Gig Challenge (or #GobshoutGigChallenge if you're on Twitter) was a mere twinkle in its makers eye, it was thought we could just hang around the back of the Barfly, playing with our Blackberry and sulkily ticking off bands until the magic 16 number was reached.  Oh, the sweet naivety of the unknowing! In a (very small) nutshell, we have to watch a whole gig by one artist on any one line-up, and then can't watch another that night in the same venue (hence why you haven't all broke the record each time you've been to Glastonbury). If we miss ANY of the set it won't count.  We then have to prove our presence at said gig with pictures and a signed affirmation by someone involved with the venue, which must be a recognised music venue with a capacity of at least two hundred people.  There's a whole load of other bullshit too, but we have neither the time nor the inclination to bore you with it all now.

How Can I Help?

Spread the word!  Tell family, friends, old acquaintances and those people on Facebook you’re friends with but haven’t spoke to in 10 years and secretly hate.  If you are on Twitter, follow us and tweet about it (using #GobshoutGigChallenge).  Re-tweet our tweets about it.  If you know someone who works at a website/paper/radio station who you think might be interested in covering it, put them our way.  Below is our planned itinerary, so if you want to come down to one of the shows to say hello and show some solidarity (or even just quaff a skinful!), please do.  To contact us about it, just email david@gobshout.com or tom@gobshout.com.

The Itinerary

Here's what we propose to do.  Now, bear in mind that is only what is planned and while most if it is confirmed, there are still a couple of shaky slots.  If you know of any other gigs that could slip somewhere into the itinerary (especially on Sunday), please let us know as we fully expect things to tit up with a couple of them.
