When the people behind superclub ‘Cream’ put on a festival you just know it’s gonna be good! Creamfields is their annual dance music festival which takes place in the idyllic fields of Daresbury (between Liverpool & Manchester) every August bank holiday.
You can expect dance music from many different genres and some fantastic headline acts including a live set from man of the moment Dizzee Rascal. In addition you got Tiesto, Basement Jaxx, 2 Many DJs, Calvin Harris and just about every famous DJ you can name. (See link to site at foot of this article for full line up).
If you like your dance music then stick the weekend of 29th and 30th August in your diary. You wanna know more? Well, Rosie at Cream has very kindly agreed to answer a few questions for Gobshout…
Tell us what is special about Creamfields and why people should choose it over the many other festivals going on.
Creamfields brings the worlds biggest and best electronic artists all on one line up alongside the hottest up and coming talent. We have been at the forefront of dance music for the last decade and are the original dance music festival. Come and spend the August Bank holiday weekend partying for 2 days straight with the friendliest and most up for it crowd. Creamfields are also the only festival to drop our prices in line with the recession. With weekend & weekend camping tickets only £100, Creamfields is the only festival to be at this year!
How long have you been involved with Creamfields and how did you become involved?
This will now be my third Creamfields, I was working at another pr company in the city and was aware of the position becoming available, and my love for the electronic music scene pushed me to hound Gill Nightingale’s (head of pr & communications) inbox until I got an interview.
Who decides which DJs or artists to book?
This year we actually ran a survey for our fans to fill in, from this James Barton, MD of the company and Scott Barton put together the biggest Electronic festival line up of the year that our punters wanted to see.

Cream has become synonymous with dance music, how healthy do you think the dance scene is at the moment?
I think the dance scene is very healthy at the moment, club nights are still packing out week on week, and I think that the best thing is there are so many styles and scenes, that people are really able to feel at home at a club night and find something for them. Cream only does 3 shows a year, and we have sold out the last three which have been amazing! We have people flying in from all around the world to join us.
Cream has become a global brand with events everywhere from Ibiza to Buenos Aires, do you get to visit loads of exotic places as part of your job?
Unfortunately I don’t, we’re far too busy in the office putting together our own festival in the UK to take time out to go to the others, although I did go to Creamfields Spain last year, which had the Chemical Brothers & Groove Armada headlining, and was a fantastic show.
Sounds fantastic... any jobs going?
Unfortunately not at the moment……
What is the most unusual item a DJ or artist has asked to be included in their rider?
I think I remember Groove Armada asking for fridge magnets one year?
Tell us something about organising a festival that people take for granted.
I think people don’t realise the amount of work that has to go on behind the scenes, we have an amazing team of people who work the entire week before putting up the structures, camping on site, there is so much going on, security, cleaners who work through the night to get the site clean for the next day, bar staff, sound technicians, the list is just endless, and everyone works very long hours to bring the music to the people…..
Will you be going to the festival, who are you most looking forward to seeing?
I will be working at the festival, but I always try to have a look in every arena at least for 5 minutes, it was going off in the Swedish house Mafia arena last year, the biggest party on site, and they’re back again this year, and of course our headliners, Tiesto, and the ultimate carnival kings, Basement Jaxx, and we have so many exclusives, like Mylo, Luciano LIVE, Deadmau5 oh the list is endless…..
What is your favourite memory since being involved with Creamfields?
Last year the Cream team all went into the crowds to watch Nile Rodgers and Chic, and as they sung the disco classic ‘I’m coming out’ the clouds parted and the sunshine came flooding onto the festival site and the entire crowd through their arms in the air and cheered! It was an amazing Creamfields moment and memory!
And favourite DJ?
That’s a difficult one for me…..I couldn’t possibly choose!
Creamfields takes place on the 29th & 30th August 2009 on Daresbury Estate, Halton. For full line up, information & tickets please visit http://www.creamfields.com
