Just last year Feedme Music received an Indy award for best live promoter. Less than a year on and a change of ownership at The Clapham Grand has put their biggest and best night in jeopardy. They obviously want to prevent this from happening… and so do we. And hopefully so do you.
Feedme music work with unsigned bands, supplying them with the sound and stage and lighting, everything they need to help them punch above their weight. What this in effect means is that up and coming bands can call on the expertise of guys who have worked with everyone from Bon Jovi to The Prodigy, making sure new bands look and sound as good as they possibly can.
For the past four and a half years they have a run a successful residency at The Clapham Grand, but when the venue was bought over by a private investor he came with his own plans and made it quite clear that keeping live music was not among them. After discussions Feedme Music have managed to negotiate a trial live music night on Wednesday 8th October.
So, inconceivably, after a four and a half year residency these award winning promoters now have one Wednesday night (a school night!) to prove that their promoting new music at The Clapham Grand is a good thing.
It most definitely is a good thing, for the venue, for the area, for London’s live music scene but most of all for the up and coming bands they give a leg up to. This is the grass roots of the music industry; it almost goes without saying that this must be nurtured if we want the music scene to be healthy two years from now. Nowhere else in the UK do unsigned bands get to play a venue of this size and splendour. That is why Gobshout are calling on you to lend your support.
It is easy to support established bands. It easy to like the Arctic Monkeys, or Coldplay, or Oasis, or anyone with a record deal or albums in shops. But before these bands got there, before they got radio play, before Steve Lamacq or the NME told you to watch out for them, they had people like Feedme Music working with them.
I remember a promoter once telling me: ‘Where do you think these bands come from? They don’t just appear. By the time the NME get on to writing about them there are people in the industry who have known about them sometimes for years.’
All you have to do is, if you are in or around the capital on Wednesday 8th of October get yourself down to the Clapham Grand. Five bands for eight quid (or six in advance from Ticketweb) – you can’t say it’s not value for money and a good time is guaranteed.
Gobshout will be there, we hope you will too.

Viper Squadron - 3rd Support – 20:00 – 20:30
Viper Squadron formed in Wimbledon in 2003, and quickly established Viper HQ in Crystal Palace. Their first album, Attack Of The Vapours, spawned four singles including ‘Computers Are Taking Over The World’, ‘The Graveyard Stomp’ and their grand finale, ‘Debra’. Their new as yet untitled album is currently being recorded in the dark depths of Viper HQ with an end of year release planned on Pop! Records. Their sound can only be described as unique, pounding rock beats with a disco edge and all the laser cannons, balloons and eccentricity that make Viper Squadron a live spectacle that even KISS would be proud of.
Trail - 2nd support 20:40 – 21:10
Not content to follow the crowd, London based 5-piece Trail have drawn on their wildly varied influences to create a rock sound that's fresh and exciting. Their haunting, instantly recognisable music is earning them a widespread audience and an impressive live following. 2007 saw Trail winning Capital 95.8’s unsigned competition, making the final 10 of O2 undiscovered and a nomination for the INDY awards 2008 soon followed. These successes will no doubt see them build upon previous performances at events such as the O2 wireless festival, and with a new album currently in production expect big things.
TBC 1st support – 21:20 – 21:50
Branco Heist - Headliner – 22:00 – 22:40
Having recently released their debut EP through Close Call Music and having been nominated for an INDY Award 2008, this rapidly rising Liverpool/London based trio The Branco Heist have an original sound combining soulful vocals and a booming rhythm section. Their songs will guide you through the full range of emotions with their live show having you dancing madly one minute, before turning things on their head, leaving you swooning at the tales of lost love.
