The Horrors Are Back

'Smooth & catchy synth’s come in... leaving me with no horror but only delight'

So The Horrors are back! Did anyone actually notice them slip out of the radar? I just remembered them being an NME favourite for a short glance. The gangly lank pole of lead singer Faris mocking the height of honourable short arse Tom of The Enemy at some awards by putting his hand on his skull cap……..blah blah…nuff said.

Basically a bunch of Art school wankoids who are here one moment, lost out of sight the next.  A seemingly well connected band (Chris Cunningham, Peaches Geldof ughhhh) who had videos better than the songs, ended up on the front of NME again.
Doing the Google thing….my space + the horrors took me straight to the source of the new Horrors.  An eight minute track called ‘Sea within a Sea.’

An unexpected Krautrock drumbeat leads for about a minute before Faris’s drone but welcome singing echoes neither over or under the tempo of the song. Sounding like a psychedelic Bauhaus, the garage Goth boys go all ‘Baba ‘O’ Reilly’ electronics half way through while never quite losing its pace or track. Smooth & catchy synth’s come in to ride it out leaving me with no horror but only delight that I’ve been listening to 8 minutes and wanting it to go on!

Their first album was total cock but having seen them live a couple of years ago I'm not surprised they've come back with such strong songs. Live, they were like Suicide with guitars. Good thing they managed to survive the wretched NME hype-storm which has hastened many other young bands towards death.

f*ck. I'm going to have to listen to this now. I'd vowed to hate the horrors forever. I shall NOT be happy if you make me change my ways miles
