As you are no doubt aware, this Saturday would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday and to mark this date his widow, Yoko Ono, the self styled 'guardian of his legacy will be in Iceland to light the 'Lennon Memorial Peace Tower'before playing a concert.
She has also released 'remastered'albums from the Lennon catalogue. Including 8 of his albums. No cashing in there then.
First wife, Cynthia, gets the Liverpool gig. She will be joined by her son by John, Julian where they will unveil a peace monument in his honour.
I intend to signify his birthday in my own way by lying in bed getting stoned. It's what he would have wanted.
In all seriousness it is strange how musicians are imortalised when they die. A couple of weeks ago it was the 40th anniversary of Hendrix death. I heard a 'social commentator' on the radio talking about how we haven't had a true icon 'since Strummer'.
Nonsense that is. It's just that they all fancied hanging around for a bit. And have been lucky enough to do so: Bowie, Gillespie, Lydon, Brown, Dylan. We don't need all our heroes to die young.
Anyway RIP John Lennon and thanks for the tunes, especially the good ones.
