About a month back my mate asked me if I wanted to pop along to Islington and check out a lineup of unsigned bands. I have never been one to turn down new music so off I trotted to Highbury and Islington station to a club situated beneath a pub.
After a line up of middle of the road bands I became thankful for the 2 for 1 offer on bottled beer. As my thirst for music was superseded by a drowning in booze, on they came. Three girls, one undersized acoustic guitar and a hatful of sex appeal. The band is Micachu and they blew my mind.
The voice sounded broken and the guitar sounded cheap but together they brought a beautiful harmony. Standout tune Curly Teeth was alternative pop at its finest. With a tone and pitch that ranged wildly, the singers voice is compelling and the cohesion of the band was great to watch. Catch them whilst you can as I cannot praise them enough. Only an insurmountable river of mud stopped me from seeing their set at Bestival but I tried. They're worth it.
Good luck to you Micachu - you have my big up and I am sure this is a phrase that'll be used all too freely but - please note, these are ONE TO WATCH.
Ta ta,
