I'm not quite sure where to begin with a band like Steve Miller. Since the releases of the their first album in 1967, Children of the Future, it's been hard to track the magnificent and sometimes sporadic progress the band has made.
Book of Dreams was, at the time, their tenth album which came out in 1977. Children of the Future came out in 1968 so that made this album the tenth album in 9 years!
The band works fast......
For those who were satisfied with the work the band had already done, this Book Of Dreams was just another layer of icing on the very successful cake.
With songs like 'Jungle Love' and 'Swingtown' this album skyrocketed in sales. There's just something so infectious about the rhythms Steve Miller creates. His creation, 'True Fine Love', has the simplicity and genius that only he could make.
The album went Gold.....
Although, it didn't have the monumental success that 'Fly Like and Eagle' had, it still put this band on the map. In my personal opinion, Book of Dreams was the last good album by these guys. That is, until they released 'Young Hearts' in 2003.
Unfortunately, The Steve Miller Band was never very commercially successful; they were virtually unknown when first starting. However, Steve is the unsung hero of the classic rock genre, and hopefully more are slowly starting to hear these sweet melodious tunes.
