Jude Cowan - Doodlebug Alley

Gobshout's most scathing review ever!?

Released - 7th June

The opening track, 'Doodlebug Alley', of Jude Cowan's debut album of the same name, did nothing but upset me. Her voice pained my ears and it didn’t get much better as the ridiculous song continued. Buzzing like a bee with what can only be described as wailing certainly did not make me appreciate Jude Cowan as an experimental artist.

However I gave her the benefit of the doubt and persevered in carrying on, but no, the wailing continued and the childishness got so much that I had to skip the majority of the tracks before they had reached the end. Her music maybe acceptable for story-time at nursery but is certainly not to be taken seriously. It is simply madness sung in every which way possible- ‘burning babies in the fire grate’ to me equals a lunacy that I just do not get.

Of course it's possible I have completely missed the point of Jude Cowan and she is actually some misunderstoof genius.  Regardless, I will never offend my laptop with her absolute horrific music ever again.

Thanks for all your kind words people, who said we were free to express our opinion? No one was forcing you to read it, if you dont like it then just dont. Simple!

The opening sentences of Aimee's review of Jude Cowan's 'Doodlebug Alley' did nothing but upset me. Her uninformed, lazy writing voice pained my brain and it didn't get any better as the ridiculous review continued. Childish, petty wailing about an album she didn't even bother to listen to the whole way through once only goes to show that her tiny, confused brain was not up for the challenge and wouldn't appreciate anything experimental in nature, unless she considered Kylie Minogue a musical innovator. Her reviews may be (note: it's may be, not maybe) acceptable for trash collection time at the recycling plant, but they should never be taken seriously. Of course it's possible I have completely missed the point of her review and she is actually some misunderstood music journalist genius … Nah. Just the opposite. Regardless, I will never offend my eyes and brain with her absolutely horrific writing ever again.

this is the worst display of music reviewing skills I've ever read. Why don't you give up now before you embarrass yourself further.

Whilte I am all for constructive criticism and a good discussion, this nonsens above has nothing to do with a review. Where are the arguments? Where is the perspective? Where is the background story? There is no sign of any kind of professional work in this so called "review"...

I love Jude, she is a strong poetic distinctive voice, writing about unusual subject matter. Strange spooky stories are not just for nursery children! But of course with every truly original distinctive artist you are likely to find love-ems and hate-ems!
