Released 17th May on Sainted PR
Leeds based label Dead Young Records are back with their second compilation Dead Young Club II, featuring a small selection of up-and-coming bands.
First up is Gringo Star with 'All Y’all'; a South American band with a sound reminiscent of an early Kinks. The song is a clap-along tambourine fest that is full of energy and sing-a-long moments galore.
With an intricate guitar solo adding to the vibrancy of Gringo Star’s vintage sound the song doesn’t put a foot wrong. It is upbeat, energetic and a pleasant reminder of what bands used to sound like before it got all technical. All Y’all is simplicity at its best.
The Cubical – Would be Lovers
Taken from their debut album, Come Sing These Crippled Tunes, 'Would Be Lovers' is a passionate and dark song with harsh vocals contrasted with soft and gentle acoustic guitars creating an honest song reminiscent of a poetic Nick Cave.
We//Are//Animal – 1268
Created using an 8-track recording machine, 1268 is taken from this Welsh’s band debut album and is a mix of an experimental electronic sound and an old style indie vibe.
The song stays fresh throughout and thanks to the catchy drum beat and guitar riff it doesn’t fail to get stuck in your head.
Paul Thomas Saunders – Dementia, Depression, Psychosis, Blues
A soft soulful sound from a young 20 year old that builds in emotion with the help of echoing guitars and poetic lyrics that show a sensitive side to Mr. Saunders.
Overall the compilation is an honest insight into four bands that deserve recognition for their unique talents.
